Charm of a dolphin. Have you ever spotted one in the wild? Always a nice story to tell. By the way, did you know that like other whales, dolphins are known to be highly intelligent and social animals. They have relatively large brains, for which, incidentally, there are explanations other than high intelligence: dolphins do not know brake sleep, and animals without brake sleep often have relatively large brains. In 2001, a dolphin passed the so-called mirror test, in which an animal is placed in front of a mirror to determine if it recognizes its reflection as itself. In the same year, researchers showed that dolphins understand the pointing of an object by a human. The use of sponges as tools (probably to protect the nose) is known in bottlenose dolphins. In 2005, researchers argued that while this use occurs within one genetically related group, it cannot be solely genetic, which would demonstrate a form of culture. In 2006, research from the University of St Andrews in Scotland found that bottlenose dolphins call to each other with a distinctive whistling sound, which varies from animal to animal. The researchers compare this to people’s use of names. Research at Emory University based on MRI data, completed in 2010, places dolphins just behind humans in terms of intelligence. They would owe this second place to relatively large brains relative to their bodies, the very developed neocortex and the ability to experience complex emotions and recognize themselves. Two major brain growth spurts would be recognizable. The first 39 million years ago, when toothed whales emerged, they became smaller and had larger brains. The appearance of echolocation also occurred then. The second spurt is thought to have occurred 15 million years ago when dolphins began to exhibit more social behavior and more complex interactions became increasingly important (SOURCE: WIKIPEDIA) Want to know how to put the Dolphin a Dolphin charm in your Italian Charm Bracelet ?
